Endangered Species Go Extinct Rapidly and This leads to Pandemics

"destructive human pressures such as climate change, habitat destruction, pollution, population growth, and wildlife trade, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions"

"approximately 173 species went extinct between 2001 and 2014, which "is 25 times more extinct species than you would expect"

“The vaccine for Covid-19 was natural habitat,” Dr. Ceballos said. “The pandemic is a great example of how badly we’ve treated nature.”

60 % of Wildlife Populations Gone

60 % of Wildlife Populations Gone

This is due  to habitat loss and hunting for food.  This report from back in October is reinforced by the new reports that over 1 million species are at risk.  Our ability to eat and survive is threatened.

Trump Administration and Congress Trying to Kill Off Endangered Species

They want to stop protecting threatened species and stop protecting habitat. They want oil, mining, and logging companies to be in charge of wildlife. They want to stop listing more species. They want politics and industry to trump science.

Great interview with Kieran Suckling, the cofounder of Center For Biologcial Diversity:

Ask Your Senators to Stop the 3 Bad Endangered Species Bills

The Republicans have stuck some anti wildlife riders (amendments) in some bills that Congress must pass ( military and appropriations). These bills make economic impacts have priority over the lives of endangered species. They also devalue science.

Global Warming Causes Warmer Sand and Seas, Making Baby Green Turtles Become Female

A sea turtle island nesting site in Australia now has 99% of its young green turtles turning female. The sex is determined by the heat of the nesting beach, so hotter seas, air, and sand lead to dramatic changes in the ratio of females to males. We need to keep trees along beaches to shade them, and we need to fight against the oil and coal companies that are causing global warming. We make a turtle design on totebags, so you can replace plastic shopping bags that choke turtles and birds. Here is a link to the turtle totebag and t-shirts.   https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/01/australia-green-sea-turtles-turning-female-climate-change-raine-island-sex-temperature   https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/10/science/female-sea-turtles-global-warming.html
