Groups Protect Journalists
The Committee to Protect Journalists. Reporters without Borders. These groups organize protests, give awards, and pressure governments to free journalists. Often journalists are jailed, tortured, kidnapped, or killed by governments that try to set examples to stop muckraking reporters and their embarassing revelations. In the last few months, another Mexican journalist was killed, and the Saudi prince had Washington Post journalist Kashoggi killed and dismembered inside their embassy. In the third world, in Russia, and even in the US, reporters are teargassed, arrested, attacked, threatened, sued, and fired when they offend the government, large corporations, or institutions. In too many countries, journalists are tortured and killed.
